A Candid Discussion on Suicide - Ep 97 - The Seacoast Podcast
Jack Hoey III, Lynne Stroy, Roy Jacques, and Joey Svendsen have a somber conversation about suicide, reflecting on personal losses at the hands of this tragedy, including the passing of Seacoast pastor Darrin Patrick in May of 2020. The four also ponder the theological implications of suicide and discuss the merits of the "selfish act label" that many people give to one who takes his or her life. Joey also fields questions from the other three about his experience with a mental health crisis in 2019, contemplating suicide some during that time. The four also have an imaginative discussion (thanks to Joey) on the suicide of the apostle Judas Iscariot.

IF AMERICA WAS A VIDEO!!!!
I struggle with anger too the emotion is too much sometimes just to be calm
I was finding my trials somewhat joyful this morning and googled for something related to finding our trials pure joy (because of James 1:2-4) and after watching the first few minutes of this, I found it ironic that the trial I'm having right now is regarding living with my sister 😆
I disagree with the assumption made by this group that people that commit suicide are completely selfish and they should have thought about the pain he would lay in his family. Do people obviously not get it?! If you’re so depressed with your life and you know longer want to live. This person has probably tried numerous medications and hung on as long as they could. They take their lives because they can’t stand to suffer anymore. If youve never been depressed, you can’t imagine day after day of negative dark thoughts and sadness and loneliness and unloved a person feels . Suicide happens when they are tired of being miserable. I personally think it’s selfish of other people to point and say, “how dare he do that to us?!” Until you’ve lived with mental illness you have no idea how scary, hopeless and dark it can be. Doctors can’t always figure out the diagnosis and there aren’t many new medications coming out for mental illness, anxiety. If the medical system fails them and they can’t get enough support from family and church. Then u won’t hear me say”how selfish” i say, “Don’t you really think he wanted to live? Obviously he had to make the awful decision to take his life. People can only tolerate the sadness and deep level of depression before they start isolating themselves they can just lay in the bed-sleep and isolate.the more depressed you are the level of energy also goes down. Depressed people are exhausted and sad and often have life situations that want changed. And since they can’t make it work. Then they don’t want to be alive. I wish people would quit calling it selfish.
Hi Rebecca, clarifying that the group didn't assume that suicide is a selfish act. They were honest about the feelings they had in the past before learning more about depression and mental health. They also recognized the complexity and tension of their current feelings while acknowledging their lack of personal experience with depression and mental illness. Our host, Joey, shared his personal experience of having suicidal thoughts during a mental health crisis. He provided valuable insights into what he was thinking in those moments, which helps those who have not experienced mental illness gain a better perspective on the matter.
Gonna meet the fire department half way!😂

When proud & full of pride we are in turmoil ; but when humble we feel God’s peace and love .
Funny shitt
Fucking cigarettes huh
1.) They saw them but couldn’t do anything about it. They wouldn’t get near them. 2.) He asked them to act on their faith A.) it’s easier to have faith in trouble Once well they had no faith? The lesson I got was how ppl naturally are is ungrateful. It’s 10% of ppl that will be grateful no matter how someone helps
Ghost riders boat.
I have a few people in my life that are hauling burning boats and encircling me with them.! hard to get them to believe me though
I grieved alone the youngest of 5 children. My mother laid out in the casket to an empty room except for me and my husband. 😢This trauma has stayed with me. Mom died on my oldest son’s birthday and my siblings didn’t care to visit mom in her casket. This was particularly humiliating the funeral home owner knew me we went to school in the same class. They must of thought my mom was a terrible person but she was so completely selfless always giving of herself for her family. The lack of respect of caring from my siblings I cannot forgive. I still cry and I will always cry 😢 mom I love you 💕 Happy Mother’s Day in Heaven I know you’re there making art and tending to Gods garden. 🌸🌼🌸🌼
😮😲😲😲🤯🤯
What’s the name of this movie ?
Awesome message
My God!!! He said some very powerful things.
SO how the heck do I fix this?
I pray that everyone suffering from grief may get a little relief tonight and rest. My friend passed over 2 years ago and she had stopped contacting me 2 yrs before that. Idk why she did. I've got to live with never truly knowing and it bothers me so much. What bothers me more is the fact that my friend is gone.truly gone. Nobody to tell the good, bad, funny things to. There's no other friends for me and people are so cold. Some days it stops me in my tracks and I ugly cry. Always alone. I mention her name in a story and my family doesn't listen i feel like. I could stay with B anytime I needed to or wanted to. She was so good and loving towards me. We had some funny times and some sad. I often talk to her while driving alone. My grief knows no limits and its frustrating being sad and feeling so alone. Please pray for me.
I mean shit imagine ur on your way to a vacation on the boat and it catches on fire because you threw out a cigarette
The irony of it all
Popped 😮
Probably flicked his cigarette butt out the window and it landed in the boat ⛵😮😊😢😂❤
"No Smoking" signs posted everywhere while Hulk Hogan is driving by is like, "That won't work for me, brother".
Sorry but that's hilarious
That is so true. We walk with trauma and ignore as if it doesn't exist.
I know that feeling
Music has never suited a video more 😅😅😅😅👍
I haven't lost any family members, but I did lose my dog in the summer of 2023 and then my friends left me a couple months later and I feel silly for grieving over them all still even though it was so long ago and it's really not even that serious but I can't stop the feeling of just missing them all so dearly. Please pray for me
It’s not YHWH that brings illness, disease, suffering, but rather spirits of infirmity, etc…. YHWH is for us, not against us. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy.
Ohhhhhh I roared laughing!😂😂😂😂😂
Relatable.
7:46pm
😂
Just another manic Monday. Poor person.
This is just SO SO FUNNY ! Thank you !
About 17 years ago a buddy and i borrowed a worktruck from my fiance's (long over now) work. We worked for opposition companies. My mate had flicked his ciggie out the window but it came back on the of the truck but we didn't realise it had set the stuff on fire. So we drive down Henry Lawson Drive in East Hills, Sydney, with the truck on fire. When we stopped at a set of traffic lights the smoke came past the cabin and we noticed we were ablaze. We grabbed a hose from someone's front yard and put the fire out
Wtf
Oh, no!
